Have you ever considered homesteading or prepping?

Homesteading is being able to learn to live a self sufficient lifestyle in a modern world.  There are many different areas in which one can homestead. Through this blog I will talk about my personal experiences with our homestead farm and assist those interested in learning the lifestyle through weekly blog sessions.  It is my hope as a long term free lance writer and homesteader that you will enjoy this blog and interact with any questions you might present.

Additionally, I am an avid prepper with our family. It took several years for my husband fully to get on board with the concept that the system and government as we know it might fail us. Now with four children and seeing the chaos not only happening throughout the world but in our own nation we have come together to prepare our family for the "what if" in case it would occur.

Homesteading can be started in the most small of ways. A garden is an excellent starting example and can be extended by having a greenhouse throughout the year.  You can extend your produce further by canning (both pressure and water based) but this will be discussed during later blogs. Another awesome project we have started and continue as a family is raising poultry. We raise both quail, chickens and ducks. This provides us an excellent example of protein and we are now incubating them ourselves and enjoying the process of watching them born.

Another example is figuring out what valuable commodities might be valuable in case of an economic collapse. Think about this for a minute...some people smoke and drink yes? Learning to grow your own tobacco could be one means or having stock pile of cartons and alcohol as well.  Additionally the basics such as food would be considered very valuable in an emergency situation.

This is only a preview and barely a glance of what I will touch throughout the coming weeks, months and years. Please join us on this learning journey!
